CARMAX ASSOCIATE SAVES CO-WORKER’S LIFE, WINS ABOVE AND BEYOND AWARD
RICHMOND, Va. (August 27, 2008) —CarMax, Inc. (NYSE: KMX), the nation’s largest retailer of used vehicles, is pleased to announce that Matt Wallace has been awarded the CarMax “Above and Beyond” award. Wallace, a Production Technician at the CarMax store located at 9750 North Gray Road in Indianapolis, Indiana was honored for saving the life of a fellow CarMax associate.
On June 5, 2008, Bob Blondiau, also a Production Technician at the Indianapolis store, began choking on a piece of food while eating in the CarMax break room. Wallace became aware of Blondiau’s distress and quickly administered the Heimlich maneuver, which dislodged the food.
“Matt’s quick actions were exceptional,” said Meade Trible, location general manager of the Indianapolis location. He added, “We are proud to have such an alert and responsive member on our team.”
Only a few select associates throughout the entire company nationwide are selected for the "Above and Beyond" award. The award consists of a bonus check of $1,000, a pizza party for the winner’s store, and a trophy. Store and regional management nominate associates and winners are selected for delivering exceptional customer service.
