RICHMOND, Va. (October 5, 2009)-CarMax, Inc. (NYSE: KMX), the nation’s largest retailer of used cars, announced today that The CarMax Foundation has awarded the Rape Crisis Center of Catawba County, North Carolina a $4,000 grant as part of the Foundation’s Regional Giving Program.

The Rape Crisis Center of Catawba County received the funds for the Teens Emerge program. Teens who have been the victim of sexual violence have the opportunity to participate in various retreats and a service learning project which include activities that increase self-esteem and skills in leadership, communication, assertiveness and empowerment.

“This program offers hope to teens who have been the victim of unthinkable violence,” said Rita Highlander, Atlanta Regional Giving Committee member and CarMax business office manager in Greensboro. “The CarMax Foundation is honored to support the Rape Crisis Center of Catawba County in their efforts to develop these teens as they approach adulthood.”

The CarMax Foundation’s Regional Giving Program reinforces CarMax's commitment to funding programs that improve local communities. The Regional Giving Program provides grants to qualifying nonprofit organizations that have programs focused on education and youth leadership. CarMax associates working within each of the regions select the local organizations to recommend for grants.
