RICHMOND, Va. (May 15, 2008) —CarMax, Inc. (NYSE: KMX), the nation’s largest retailer of used vehicles, is pleased to announce that Jon Penny has been awarded the CarMax “Above and Beyond” award. Penny, a Buyer-in-Training at the CarMax store located at 8520 Glenwood Avenue in Raleigh, North Carolina, was honored for responding to a customer in need of CPR.
On February 28, 2008, a male customer collapsed on the floor at the Raleigh CarMax store. Penny quickly responded by performing emergency CPR on the customer. Once the ambulance arrived, they were able to assist the customer immediately due to Penny’s quick actions.
“Jon’s concern for this customer is admirable and respected,” said Pete LeQuier, Location General Manager of the Raleigh location. He added, “We are proud to have such a caring, compassionate member on our team.”
Only a few select associates throughout the entire company nationwide are selected for the "Above and Beyond" award each month. The award consists of a bonus check of $1,000, a pizza party for the winner’s store, and a trophy. Store and regional management nominate associates and winners are selected for delivering exceptional customer service.
