CARMAX FOUNDATION AWARDS $2,500 GRANT TO NEVADA CHILD SEEKERS
RICHMOND, Va. (July 22, 2008)-CarMax, Inc. (NYSE: KMX), the nation’s largest retailer of used cars, announced today that the CarMax Foundation has awarded Nevada Child Seekers a $2,500 grant as part of the Foundation’s new Regional Giving Program.
Nevada Child Seekers received the grant for the Abduction and Exploitation Prevention Education program which offers children safety classes, teaching them to recognize abduction warning signals and how to remain safe. This program’s goal is to reduce the abduction rate and keep children safe in their community.
“Nevada Child Seekers offers safety programs that all communities can benefit from,” said Mark Simmons, Los-Angeles Regional Giving Committee chairperson and CarMax purchasing manager in San Diego, California. “The CarMax Foundation is proud to support programs that promote the safety and best interest of children in the areas where our associates live and work.”
The CarMax Foundation’s Regional Giving Program reinforces CarMax's commitment to funding programs that improve the communities where our associates live and work. The Regional Giving Program will provide grants to qualifying nonprofit organizations that have programs focused on education and youth leadership.
Each of CarMax’s eight regions will grant up to $100,000 annually to organizations in their local area, totaling $800,000 nationwide, which will directly benefit local communities each year. CarMax associates working within each of the regions select the local organizations to recommend for grants.
