CARMAX AWARDS $5,000 MATH AND SCIENCE SCHOLARSHIP AWARD TO DOUGLAS FREEMAN HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE

Richmond, Va. (July 29, 2008)—CarMax, Inc. (NYSE: KMX), the nation's largest retailer of used cars, announced today that Mark Salzman, 18, of Richmond, Virginia has received the $5,000 CarMax Math and Science Scholarship. Mark, a 2008 graduate of Douglas Freeman High School, located in Henrico County of the Greater Richmond area, plans to enter New York University this fall to study Business.

The CarMax Math and Science scholarship was established to benefit graduating seniors who have tremendous academic skills and plan to attend a four-year university majoring in math, science, computer science, business, economics or another related field.

“We’re pleased to offer this award to Mark as he begins his education at New York University this fall,” said Tom Folliard, president and CEO of CarMax. “By recognizing one academically outstanding high school student each year, we’re helping to encourage students to pursue the fields of math and science right here in the Greater Richmond area.”

Applicants attended an accredited high school in Richmond City, Chesterfield, Henrico, Hanover or Goochland County. Other requirements include a grade point average of a 3.7 or better, a score of 700 or better in the math section of the SAT, involvement in extracurricular and volunteer activities, and experience in the work force. Candidates also had to have taken Dual Enrollment or AP courses in his or her desired major, maintaining a “B” average or better.
