CARMAX ASSOCIATE PROVIDES OUTSTANDING SERVICE, WINS ABOVE AND BEYOND AWARD

RICHMOND, Va. (August 27, 2008) —CarMax, Inc. (NYSE: KMX), the nation’s largest retailer of used vehicles, is pleased to announce that Jey Heyward has been awarded the CarMax “Above and Beyond” award. Heyward, a Sales Consultant at the CarMax store located at 712 Savage Road in Charleston, South Carolina was honored for his outstanding customer service after both he and a customer were victims in a car accident.

On May 10, 2008, Heyward met an out-of-town customer to guide him to the store. During the drive, both vehicles were struck by another car. After Jey was treated and released, the customer called him in need of a vehicle but with no transportation to the store. The customer also had his passenger’s infant with him since the infant’s parent remained in the hospital. Without hesitation, Heyward retrieved the child’s car seat from the wrecked vehicle. He then drove the customer and the infant to the CarMax store to conclude the car shopping process.

“Jey’s action for this customer was admirable,” said Sean Hardy, location general manager of the Charleston location. He added, “Although both drivers suffered a terrifying ordeal, Jey remained committed to putting the customer’s need before his own.”

Only a few select associates throughout the entire company nationwide are selected for the "Above and Beyond" award. The award consists of a bonus check of $1,000, a pizza party for the winner’s store, and a trophy. Store and regional management nominate associates and winners are selected for delivering exceptional customer service.
