RICHMOND, Va. (March 25, 2009)-CarMax, Inc. (NYSE: KMX), the nation’s largest retailer of used cars, announced today that The CarMax Foundation has awarded Fresno area’s Encourage Tomorrow a $5,000 educational grant as part of the Foundation’s Regional Giving Program.
Encourage Tomorrow received the grant for the Pathways to Success for Youth Program, which will enroll 20 Hispanic female students. The participants attend classes designed to promote financial literacy and provide experiences to prepare the students for their college education. Activities include out-of-town college visits, participation in college-sponsored conferences, and trips to local businesses and museums.
“The CarMax Foundation is proud to support this program that will assist local young women who are working toward continuing their education,” said Jim Nauman, CarMax location general manager in Fresno, California. “These students will build career goals and financial knowledge that will enrich their future.”
The CarMax Foundation’s Regional Giving Program reinforces CarMax's commitment to funding programs that improve local communities. The Regional Giving Program provides grants to qualifying nonprofit organizations that have programs focused on education and youth leadership. CarMax associates working within each of the regions select the local organizations to recommend for grants.
