CARMAX FOUNDATION GRANTS $100,000 TO DRIVER’S EDGE FOR YOUNG DRIVER EDUCATION PROGRAM

RICHMOND, Va. (August 21, 2008) - CarMax, Inc. (NYSE: KMX), the nation’s largest retailer of used cars, announced today that The CarMax Foundation has awarded Driver’s Edge a $100,000 grant for its national young driver education program. Driver’s Edge is a non-profit organization with a mission to save lives through hands-on lessons behind the wheel of a vehicle. This unique program reaches hundreds of individuals aged 15 to 21 each year, displaying the potential hazards of operating a vehicle and emphasizing seat belt safety and the dangers of impaired driving.

The CarMax Foundation is proud to support an organization that has such a strong commitment to the issue of teen driving safety,” said Donna Wassel, president of The CarMax Foundation. “The programs offered by Driver’s Edge are modern and fun, while providing priceless life-saving techniques behind the wheel.”

“This grant from The CarMax Foundation will help us to continue a successful 2008 National Tour in at least 16 cities across the U.S.,” said Jeff Payne, founder and chief executive officer of Driver’s Edge. “We want to educate the public, especially new drivers, about how automobile collisions can be avoided and how important it is to put a high priority on safety when driving. Our students are taught actions to take when handling dangerous real-life driving situations.”

Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for U.S. teens, accounting for more than one in three deaths in this age group, according to the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control. In 2006, studies show that 5,156 teenagers died in the United States from crash injuries, according to the Highway Loss Data Institute. Also, 61 percent of teenage passenger deaths in 2006 occurred in vehicles driven by another teenager.

To date, more than 50,000 young drivers and their parents have attended Driver’s Edge events. The 2008 National Tour has sessions coming up in Nashville, Minneapolis, Oakland, Charlotte, and Las Vegas. Information on tour dates and locations can be found at http://www.driversedge.org/.
