CARMAX ASSOCIATE DISPLAYS HEROIC ACTION, WINS ABOVE AND BEYOND AWARD
RICHMOND, Va. (August 27, 2008) —CarMax, Inc. (NYSE: KMX), the nation’s largest retailer of used vehicles, is pleased to announce that Shane Cassily has been awarded the CarMax “Above and Beyond” award. Cassily, a senior buyer at the West Valley CarMax store located at 1041 N. 99th Avenue in Tolleson, Arizona, was honored for responding to an auto accident and providing life-saving first aid to a victim in need.
On June 15, 2008, Cassily was headed to work when he witnessed a large pickup truck roll several times. Cassily, who served in the Air Force, quickly responded by calling 911 dispatchers while administering first aid. When the paramedics arrived, the driver was still alive thanks to Cassily’s efforts.
“Shane’s actions to help this individual are commendable,” said Sue Kellogg, location general manager of the West Valley CarMax location. She added, “We are proud to have such a brave and compassionate member on our team.”
Only a few select associates throughout the entire company nationwide are selected for the "Above and Beyond" award. The award consists of a bonus check of $1,000, a pizza party for the winner’s store, and a trophy. Store and regional management nominate associates and winners are selected for delivering exceptional customer service.
