RICHMOND, Va. (November 3, 2009) — CarMax, Inc. (NYSE: KMX), the nation's largest retailer of used cars, has received the 2009 Business of Integrity Award for Marketplace Ethics by the Board of Directors and Education Foundation of the Upstate South Carolina Better Business Bureau. CarMax has a store in Greenville, South Carolina located at 2800 Laurens Road.
“Our business model is built on transparency and ethical standards,” said Steve Reed, location general manager of the CarMax location in Greenville. “Receiving this award is a testament to our associates who bring integrity, honesty and fairness to their jobs every day.”
Receiving the Business of Integrity Award for Marketplace Ethics reflects CarMax’s continued dedication to ethical practices in their business and community. Business of Integrity winners have demonstrated their commitment to ethical business practices in all aspects of their relationships with customers, associates, vendors, shareholders, and within the community. CarMax received the Marketplace Ethics award in 2006 and became eligible to enter again in 2009.
CarMax has supported the Greenville, South Carolina community with grants to local organizations, volunteer team builders, as well as food, toy and blood drives. This past year, The CarMax Foundation awarded Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Upstate with a $9,500 grant for their “Serve 770” program as well as Girl Scouts of South Carolina with a $3,000 for their “Go for the Gold” program. CarMax Greenville associates also volunteered with the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club and participated in the annual “Walk to Defeat ALSTM” to raise money for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
