Purpose and Mission
As part of its mission, CarMax is committed to being a responsible corporate citizen and good neighbor. The CarMax Foundation was established in 2003 to provide a means for CarMax’s charitable contributions. Since establishing the CarMax Foundation in 2003, nonprofit organizations have been awarded more than $6.62 million to help the communities where our Associates live and work. The Foundation seeks to promote automobile passenger safety and improve the communities in which our Associates live and work. The Foundation is committed to:
Programs The Foundation provides grants and support to non-profit organizations that promote primarily automotive safety, youth leadership, and education.
In fiscal 2009, the CarMax Foundation donated more than $1.59 million to these programs. |
Reading Is Fundamental
In celebration of CarMax's 100th store opening in February 2009, The CarMax Foundation donated 100 book collections to Reading Is Fundamental programs located near each of our 100 stores. Reading Is Fundamental programs motivate children to read by working with them, their parents, and community members to make reading a fun and beneficial part of everyday life. For the local donations, a collection of books that focused on exciting travel adventures and safety were distributed. These books, along with bookmarks and bookplates for the inside cover of each book, were delivered to the local organization. The theme of the donation - "Put your Imagination in Gear" - encouraged kids of all ages to enjoy the thrill of a good book.
