RICHMOND, Va. (October 22, 2009)-CarMax, Inc. (NYSE: KMX), the nation’s largest retailer of used cars, announced today that The CarMax Foundation has awarded the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta a $15,000 grant as part of the Foundation’s Regional Giving Program.
The Boys & Girls Clubs received the funds for the Power Hour homework and tutoring program. This program offers a structured environment for all club members, ages six to 18, to complete their homework and ask for one-on-one assistance when needed. Power Hour provides support and guidance allowing club members to have a better understanding of the work they are doing and to arrive at school better prepared for class and tests.
“Homework is a crucial part of the education process, especially as students get closer to college,” said Ed Ragsdale, Atlanta Regional Giving Committee chairperson and CarMax location general manager in Atlanta. “The CarMax Foundation is proud to support this program that encourages young people to take the time to commit to daily homework assignments, which will lead to great academic accomplishments.”
The CarMax Foundation’s Regional Giving Program reinforces CarMax's commitment to funding programs that improve local communities. The Regional Giving Program provides grants to qualifying nonprofit organizations that have programs focused on education and youth leadership. CarMax associates working within each of the regions select the local organizations to recommend for grants.
