CARMAX EXPERTS PROVIDE VEHICLE SUGGESTIONS FOR GAS PRICE-CONSCIOUS CONSUMERS

RICHMOND, Va. (April 8, 2005)—At a time when gas prices continue to rise, CarMax, Inc. (NYSE: KMX), the nation's leading specialty retailer of used cars, is providing recommendations for gas price-conscious car shoppers. According to the American Automobile Association, the average gas price nationally is $2.404 per gallon for mid-grade gasoline. Car shoppers, who usually consider vehicle price and lifestyle when buying a car, might also want to consider the rising price of gas in their buying decision.

Car shoppers do not have to compromise if they want a certain vehicle type, even a sport utility vehicle, says the team of approximately 600 car-buying experts at CarMax who have appraised more than five million cars for the retailer. However, vehicles with fewer cylinders will usually have better fuel efficiency.

CarMax suggests gas price-conscious consumers consider the following used vehicles:

• Sport utility vehicles: Ford Escape, Toyota Rav4, Nissan Pathfinder, Ford Explorer, Jeep Grand Cherokee.
• Two- and four-door sedans: Toyota Echo, Scion xA and xB, Dodge Stratus, Honda Accord, Ford Escort ZX2.
• Luxury sedans: Volvo S-80, Audi A4.
• Pickup trucks: Ford Ranger, Chevrolet S10, Nissan Frontier.
• Hybrids: Toyota Prius, Honda Insight, Ford Hybrid Escape, Honda Civic Hybrid.
